European Environment Agency
The European Environment Agency (EEA) is a decentralized agency of the European Union. The European Union adopted a regulation establishing the EEA in 1990, which entered into force in 1993 following the decision to locate the EEA in Copenhagen. Subsequently, in 1994, the EEA started its activities. This regulation also established the European Environmental Information and Monitoring Network (Eionet), which represents a network of more than 500 national environmental institutions and bodies across Europe and around 1,500 experts.
The Slovak Republic officially became a member of the EEA on August 1, 2001. SEA became its National Focal Point (NFP) for Slovakia, and a Slovak representative was appointed to the Management Board of the EEA. The main task of the SEA is the coordination of national activities in relation to the EEA.
