Environmental management

Environmental management is a set of voluntary environmental policy tools that enable the introduction of a systemic approach to solving problems in the field of environmental care and continuous improvement of the behavior of organizations.

The main activities of the Environmental Management Department of the Slovak Environment Agency (SEA) focus on the following areas and activities: 

• drafts special conditions for new groups of products for the award of the national environmental label (EVP), including their regular revision, 
• receives and checks applications and assesses compliance with the special conditions for awarding EVP and with the environmental criteria of the European Union for awarding the EU Environmental Label, checks the fulfilment of the conditions specified in the license agreement,
• provides partial activities resulting from the EP regulation and R (EC) no. 66/2010 for the competent authority in connection with the European scheme of environmental labelling of products for the awarding of the EU Environmental Label and represents the Slovak Republic in working groups at the European Commission and represents the Slovak Republic, 
• carries out conformity assessment within the framework of environmental labelling type II and issues certificates, 
• ensures the activity of the competent Slovak authority for EMAS in accordance with Act no. 351/2012, and Commission Decision No. 832/2011 and represents the Slovak Republic in working groups at the European Commission, 
• receives and checks applications and performs activities related to the organization's registration in the EMAS scheme, 
• maintains and updates the national EMAS Register and notifies changes to the European Commission, provides assistance to organizations in connection with compliance with the requirements of environmental legislation, 
• cooperates in the creation of international technical standards for environmental management, is a member of TK 72 Environmental Management, these technical standards are currently processed and integrated into our system from the field of environmental management. 
• develops the area of green public procurement (GPP) and represents the Slovak Republic at meetings of member countries within the activities of the European Commission, carries out activities resulting from the National Action Plan for Green Public Procurement in the Slovak Republic for the years 2016 - 2020 (NAP GPP III), 
• develops the area of integrated product policy (IPP) and represents Slovakia at meetings of the European Commission, 
• carries out activities resulting from the implementation of the European Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP) and the Eco-Innovation Action Plan (EcoAP) and represents the Slovak Republic at the activities of the European Commission, 
• organizes activities and cooperates with educational, business and consumer organizations in support of the development of environmental management tools, education and dissemination of information.
