Environmental assessments
The Department of Information Support for Environmental Policy deals with the assessment of condition and development of Slovak Republic environment, in accordance with the Act. 17/1992 Coll., on environment and Act. 205/2004 Coll., on the collection, saving and dissemination of information on the environment, as amended.
It is carried out through three instruments:
- Reports on the environment - the processing of various types of printed and electronic reports regarding the environment
- Environmental indicators - building a broad repository of environmental indicators in the form of indicator sheets
- EnvⓘDat – providing of large database data used for the creation of reports and indicators of environment - the so-called data viewer.
Slovak Environment Agency cooperates with relevant foreign institutions (EEA, OECD, ...) within the framework of environmental assessment of the SR in the European and global space.
Recently, a lot of attention has been paid to the evaluation of future development trends and their impact on the environment and human society. The Department of Research and International Cooperation manages these assessments, follow up on reports on the state of the environment, while forecasting further developments based on past and current trends.
It is being implemented according to the tool:
- Strategic outlook in environment (Foresight) - processing of various types of text or of electronic prospective studies on environment.
Reports on the environment
- cross-sectionally, or according to the thematic approach,
- mainly for the entire territory of Slovakia,
- for a period of one or more years.
Report on the environment types:
- Reports on the state of the environment of the Slovak Republic (pursuant to Act No. 17/1992 Coll. on the Environment and Act No. 205/2004 Coll. on the Collection, storage and dissemination of Information on the Environment and on amendments to certain acts)
- Sectoral indicator reports (reports on the impact of selected sectors on the environment) - for the transport, energy, industrial production, agriculture, forestry and household sectors
- Information materials about the environment
- brochures on the development of the environment in the Slovak Republic
- publication Environment for all
- leaflets
- Thematic and cross-sectional publications - publications about the issue of green growth, green households or the circular economy
- Outlook studies and global megatrends
In some cases, reports/brochures are published in a printed version and are always available in an electronic version on the web site www.enviroportal.sk.
Environmental indicators
Environmental indicators serve as an important tool in the process of assessing the state and development of the environment towards the effectiveness of meeting the set environmental goals, as well as towards sustainable development. They are also a source of information from various areas of the environment and related aspects for the general public.
Overview of the grouping of environmental indicators in basic files according to the subject of their assessment:
- Key environmental indicators
The key indicators of the environment form a basic set of 62 selected indicators that have a significant impact on the environment within its components, factors and tools of environmental care.
- Sector indicators
This is a set of 132 indicators evaluating the impact of selected sectors on the environment and the degree of integration of environmental aspects into sectoral policies. Evaluated are 7 sectors - transport, energy, industrial production, agriculture, forestry, households and construction.
- Indicators of biodiversity status and protection
Biodiversity indicators summarize data on the overall state of biodiversity in Slovakia and trends in its changes, as well as on the factors that influence this state. The current file was approved by the resolution of the Government of the Slovak Republic no. 8 of January 13, 2016.
- Circular economy indicators
Indicators monitoring the transition to a circular economy within four thematic areas: Production and consumption, Waste management, Secondary raw materials, Competitiveness and innovation.
- Indicators of the Envirostrategy 2030
The indicators serve to monitor the fulfillment of the individual goals of the Strategy of the Environmental Policy of the Slovak Republic until 2030.
All indicators in the mentioned files are processed in the form of indicator sheets with a uniform structure and answer basic key questions, including an overview of Slovakia's position in the international evaluation.
Database of environmental indicators (EnvⓘDat)
EnvⓘDat provides access to a specific database data of environmental indicators; it is a tool for providing timely, targeted and relevant information about environment, which is used in the creation of environmental reports and indicators. The database currently contains approximately 277 indicators organized into 14 thematic areas.
